Tundra Swans

Tundra Swans are a welcome sight this time of year in Sierra Valley as they put on quite a show. Note the yellow marking just anterior to the eye. It is a definitive characteristic of the species.

Sooty Grouse

Dusky Grouse
This Sooty Grouse showed up about 300+ feet away from our home today. This is its first noted appearance here.
According to the renowned birder, John Shower, “Some split the Blue into 2 species, w/ the Sooty being in the Sierras and north, and the Dusky being more eastern…others consider them as subspecies of the Blue.’

Grey Fox

This Grey Fox is a nightly visitor and a motion sensor alerts us of his comings and goings. Oddly, the light from a flashlight doesn’t not seem to bother him as the back-deck light does.

Sea Otter

“Sometimes you need a moment to just sit back and contemplate!” I captured this image of an aquatic member of the weasel family in Morro Bay, CA.
